As if there weren’t enough reasons NOT to use Google Apps and Gmail, here are four more reasons, just in the past 2 weeks.
1. Gmail And Google+ Go Down Across The World – TechCrunch
Jan 24, 2014 – Gmail is currently experiencing what appears to be a widespread outage, with reports coming in from Europe, the U.S., Canada, India and beyond that Google’s email service is down. As an added bonus, note that Google’s Site Reliability Engineering team, which makes sure Google services stay up, was doing an AMA on Reddit exactly when this happened.
2. Gmail Glitch Caused Thousands Of Emails To Go To One Man’s Account – The Huffington Post
Jan. 24, 2014 – There’s an bug in Google search which is pointing users directly to the personal email address of a man in Fresno, CA. The address appears in a “Compose” window that pops up when the top search result for Gmail is clicked. “I’ve been getting thousands of no-subject, blank emails,” he says. “500 of them come every hour, I can’t stop them.”
3. Google Apps users messages being incorrectly placed in their Trash, Spam, or other folders.
Feb. 3, 2014 – In an email sent from Google yesterday with the subject line: “Google Apps action required: Please check now for misfiled Gmail messages”, Google stated “We discovered an issue that resulted in some of your Google Apps townsendadvisers.com users’ messages being incorrectly placed in their Trash, Spam, or other folders. The issue affected users’ actions only in Gmail for iOS, Gmail in a mobile browser, and Gmail Offline.”
What happened
Between January 15 and January 21, 2014, an issue in Gmail caused some actions, such as deleting, reporting spam, starring, archiving, or moving to a folder, to be incorrectly applied to a different message than the message the user was viewing. As a result, some messages may be unintentionally located in your users’ Trash or Spam, or other folders.
Your affected users did receive a pop-up notification about the issue in their Gmail for iOS, Gmail in a mobile browser, and Gmail Offline within the last week. The notification text:
You may have been impacted by a recent issue in Gmail that inadvertently caused some actions (e.g. delete, report spam) taken while viewing a message to be applied to a different message. The issue occurred between January 15 and January 22 and is now fixed.
We encourage you to check your Trash and Spam folders before February 14, 2014 for any items you did not intend to delete or mark as spam and move them back to your inbox. We apologize for any inconvenience.
4. Corporate accounts hosted on Gmail are being hacked.
Between 1/14/2014 and 2/1/2014 I received about 12 of the following email from many different companies that we do business with, all of whom host their email on Gmail.
